Johhny and I knew one another since our late teenage years. Our paths would cross at Cardiff squash club where I have to admit to being envious of his ability to play quality squash whatever the circumstances! Back in the early sixties I recall attending a party (or at least part of the party) Johnny threw in his home while his parents were away. On their return they must have been dismayed by the 'For Sale' and 'Sold' signs outside their house. Did that really happen! I cannot claim that we were close friends but my regard for him increased enormously when we met again to mourn the death of our mutual friend David Tudor Thomas. That experience taught me what a caring person Johnny was. In much more recent times we also met intermittently at the County Club here in Cardfif. I was both startled and delighted to see the photograph and tribute in today's Times newspaper; my compliments to those who did the necessary. Philip Thomas, Llanishen
