I was so sad to read of Johnny's death. He was a truly unique life- enhancing person whose passing will leave a hole in my life although, much to my regret, I had not seen him for some time and had no idea he was unwell. I met Johnny in the 90's in London, shortly after I was widowed. The link was a mutual friend, JBG Thomas, Bryn, the sportswriter, my parents' best man. Johnny and I had dinner many times: he opened up over a few glasses of champagne to reveal a kind, sensitive person beneath the sociable bonhomie. We bonded over similar circumstances, both from small families speaking of our respective losses. He missed his parents greatly and many years later his brother's long illness and death hit him badly. But that was not all- far from it! Often we ended up in groups, as he found delightful friends wherever he went, but I adored his company one- to- one - fascinating, lively, hilarious, irreverent, knowledgeable with a unique take on business and on life! He enhanced my life more than he will ever know. I'm only sorry that now I can never thank him.
